Electrical Engineer Supervisor

ALMA Project



Position Profile:

 

Electrical Engineer to supervise the complete Electrical and Fiber Optics distribution construction work associated with the AOS Utilities Contract (Signal and Power Distribution), which is part of the ALMA Project.

 

Candidate Profile

 

An Electrical Engineer is required (Civil or Ingeniero de Ejecución Eléctrico), with at least 10 years of experience in large industrial or mining projects, or as a field or quality control engineer. Work area is located at the Array Operation Support (AOS) Facility, at 5000 meters above the sea level, ~50 km east of San Pedro de Atacama, Region II, therefore, health must be compatible with high geographical altitude.

 


 

Key Responsibilities:

 

-         Overall electrical and fiber optics construction supervision of the AOS Utilities Contract (Signal/Power Cabling and Electrical Equipment Installation).

-         Reports to the NRAO Construction Manager.

 

Duties:

 

- Study and understand all the technical specification and drawings related with the AOS Utilities Contract (Signal and Power).

            - Maintain contact with the contractor on a day to day basis at the site.

            - Review of all the construction procedures provided by the Contractor before the construction work begins.

            - Elaboration and definition of all the quality control documentation (protocols).

            - Technical supervision of the contractor work.

            - Technical support and coordination with the contractor on a day to day basis.

- Coordination with the other construction areas to avoid inefficiencies/interferences at the sub project level, on a day to day basis.

            - Support the commissioning and start up process, including the connection of the power network with the AOS Electrical Sub Station.

Requirements for the Position:

Ten years of experience in large industrial or mining projects, or as a field or quality control engineer.

Ability to:

  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
  • Work in shifts, weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed by the project.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to him/herself or others.

Additional requirements:

  • Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Pass the high altitude medical examination for work at 5000 meters of elevation.

Location

The position will be based mainly at the ALMA Site, located approximately 50 km from San Pedro de Atacama, II Region, Chile. Most of the work will have to be performed at an elevation above 5000 meters above sea level. On-site accommodation will be provided. The work schedule requires performing a shift system. The position will require domestic travel.
